Description
The scientific name for Moin Moin leaves is Thaumatococcus daniellii and it is not the same thing as banana leaves. Moi moi leaves contain a sweet protein called thaumatin which is used in the development of sweeteners and turns sour food sweet. This explains why moin moin steamed in leaves taste better than those made in anything else. The leaves are indigenous to the rain forests of west Africa, and are known for giving that unique flavor to the world famous Moin Moin Elewe (Steamed beans).
